Notify Amaravati As Capital: AP to Centre

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Thursday adopted a unanimous resolution asking the Centre to amend the AP Reorganisation Act to declare Amaravati as the capital of the State after bifurcation.
As per the Act, Hyderabad enjoyed the status as the joint capital for 10 years. Even before the term’s completion, the first CM N Chandrababu Naidu in 2016 had launched work on building Amaravati as the capital of the State. During the five-year regime of YSRCP till Naidu re-elected as the CM in June 2024, the capital construction work was stalled due to the decision to develop three capitals as part of ‘decentralisation.’ However, the TDP-led coalition relaunched the capital development at Rs60,000 cr by PM on May 2.
